Summer Adventure: Sun-sational Suncatchers
Join the children’s staff from the Washington Heights library for an exciting, hands-on program dedicated to self-expression through art! Create a colorful suncatcher to hang in your window. Get creative and come up with a design that expresses your artistic mood – the colors and shape of your suncatcher are entirely up to you! Suitable for ages 5-12. First come, first served. Major support provided by the New York Life Foundation, the 2025 city-wide sponsor for the Summer Reading and Learning Programs. Additional support is provided by Jane Lauder; The Rona Jaffe Foundation; New York Yankees Foundation; Montblanc; anonymous donors; and the continuing major support of the Andreas C. Dracopoulos Family Endowment for Young Audiences. These programs and initiatives are part of the Library’s overall commitment to our branch patrons and education programs, led by the Merryl and James Tisch Director of Branch Libraries and Education. Summer Celebration: Bubbles the Silly Entertainer
Come join us for our end of summer celebration with Bubbles the Silly Entertainer! Bubbles will have you and your entire family singing, dancing, moving and grooving with her silly antics. Everyone will also walk away with simple facepainting and balloon twists for some extra fun! Kids of all ages are welcomed!
Movies Under The Stars: Moana 2
Grab a blanket and come enjoy a movie in a neighborhood park or playground! This summer, NYC Parks and The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment will host family-friendly movie showings across the five boroughs. “Moana 2” reunites Moana and Maui three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced. Movies begin at dusk. This event is FREE and open to the public. Glass bottles and alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited. In the event of heavy rain or extreme weather, the screening may be canceled. The decision to cancel the event will be made prior to the screening and will be prominently posted on our website. Friday Feature Films: Soul Surfer
This event will take place in person at the Hamilton Grange Library. Join us on August 22 for a screening of the 2011 film, Soul Surfer, a family drama about a 13-year-old champion surfer who loses her arm in a shark attack. (Rated PG.) Snacks will be provided. For teens ages 13-18.
