Herricks Community Fund Carnival
Have a good time for a good cause at this family-friendly fundraiser sponsored by the not-for-profit Herricks Community Fund, with thrilling rides and games and favorite fair food. Admission is free except after 8 pm Friday and Saturday, when there is a $5 entrance fee for guests over 36″ tall unless they have a ride voucher purchased online. Parking is free. Unlimited ride wristbands (for riders 36″ & taller) are $42 ($40 cash price) on site or $25 online before 5 pm Thurs., May 29. Ride tickets are $1.50 each, $32/20 tickets, or $62/50 tickets + 1 free ride. ($2 cash discount. Rides take 2 or more tickets each.) Club 8 is the weekly social skills group for teens. Learn by doing in the areas of friendship-making, assertiveness, speaking in front of a group, cooperative achievements, self-awareness, confidence and accurate communication. Some sample activities include rocket launching, drone flying, and behind-the-scenes tours of interesting local businesses (Petco, Carvel, Cloud 9 Exotic cars.) Club 8 is facilitated by a Psychologist, Mental Health Counselors, and an Art Therapist. It’s not therapy – it’s FUN!

Your creative, nontraditional scavenger hunt begins at a scenic spot that’s a local favorite. You’ll get your digital quest from your live and interactive remote host. Then you’ll take off on your own to experience a wide variety of carefully curated locations in town. You’ll walk or drive to the various checkpoints as you interpret creative tasks, accept wacky challenges, and get outside your comfort zone! ONE TICKET PER PERSON. Both family and dog friendly, the game alternates between the indoors and outdoors, with plenty of bonus challenges too! You’ll text photos and videos to your remote host, who cheers you on and assists, as you play – to document your progress. You can even interact with the locals to interpret the creative challenges. PAW Day Pet Health and Wellness Fair
The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center (AMC) is closing out National Pet Month with the return of their signature PAW Day Pet Health and Wellness Fair, held this year as part of the First Avenue Festival. Organized by AMC’s Usdan Institute for Animal Health Education, the free street fair will take place on 1st Avenue between 73rd and 74th Streets, filling the entire block with a variety of pet-centric, family-friendly activities and helpful pet health resources. Pet parents, families, and community members of all ages are welcome to participate in a paw-fect day of fun with their four-legged companions. While AMC has hosted smaller pet fairs in the past in NYC parks, this is the first year that the event will be part of a larger community street fair. Attendees will have the opportunity to pick up valuable pet health information from the Usdan Institute and speak directly with AMC veterinary staff across several specialties, including Avian & Exotic Pet, Behavior, Dentistry, Ophthalmology, Primary Care. The event will also feature a “Kid’s Zone” with fun and educational activities for children, including a toy-making station, an x-ray craft, face painting, and a stuffed animal exam station for aspiring little veterinarians. Additionally, curious canines can engage in a stimulating scent challenge led by AMC’s Behavior Team. Local animal welfare organizations will also be on-site to share information and resources, including Animal Care Centers (ACC), PAWS NY, and The Good Dog Foundation.

For the first time in history, Anne Frank House presents a full-scale recreation of the rooms where Anne Frank, her parents and sister, and four other Jewish inhabitants spent two years hiding to evade Nazi capture. Anne Frank The Exhibition premieres in NYC at the Center for Jewish History. This presentation provides a captivating experience for visitors as they encounter the context that shaped Anne’s life—from her early years in Frankfurt through the rise of the Nazi regime and the family’s 1934 move to Amsterdam, where Anne lived until her 1944 arrest and deportation to Westerbork, a large transit camp in the Netherlands, then to Auschwitz-Birkenau, a concentration camp and killing center in Nazi-occupied Poland, and eventually to her death at Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany when she was 15 years old. The Annual North Babylon Lions Club Street Fair
The North Babylon Lions Club is ‘taking it to the street” this Spring when it returns its Annual North Babylon Street Fair onto Deer Park Avenue for the first time in six years. The quarter-mile long event will stretch alongside North Babylon High School, from Hale Road to Stone Avenue. Are you a budding musician looking to record your next hit song? Our state-of-the-art recording studio is here to help! Open Studio offers a unique opportunity for teens to come in, record their music, and receive feedback from their peers and an engineer. Plus, you’ll have the chance to learn about audio engineering and get a behind-the-scenes look at the recording process. In Open Studio teens are invited to record 1 song up to 3 minutes. Depending on registrants for the day, sessions can be capped at 20 minutes. But before he does, his girlfriend will go mad, the king’s ghost will haunt the castle, actors will perform a play and there will be battles of wits and swords too. This event will take place in person at the Mott Haven Teen Center. Events will be first come, first served. In this workshop we will introduce a variety of electronic instruments. Everyone will have a chance to play with multiple electronic and digital music tools like synths, drum machines, and music making apps. No experience or materials needed! This workshop will be presented by Willie Mae Rock Camp. Willie Mae Rock Camp is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering girls and gender-expansive youth through transdisciplinary music education.

Interested in using our Recording Studio? Introduction to the Recording Studio is a course where teens can learn the basics of how to operate our recording studio. Anne Frank The Exhibition
For the first time in history, Anne Frank House presents a full-scale recreation of the rooms where Anne Frank, her parents and sister, and four other Jewish inhabitants spent two years hiding to evade Nazi capture. Anne Frank The Exhibition premieres in NYC at the Center for Jewish History. This presentation provides a captivating experience for visitors as they encounter the context that shaped Anne’s life—from her early years in Frankfurt through the rise of the Nazi regime and the family’s 1934 move to Amsterdam, where Anne lived until her 1944 arrest and deportation to Westerbork, a large transit camp in the Netherlands, then to Auschwitz-Birkenau, a concentration camp and killing center in Nazi-occupied Poland, and eventually to her death at Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany when she was 15 years old. Radical Rockaway Scavenger Hunt
Your creative, nontraditional scavenger hunt begins at a scenic spot that’s a local favorite. You’ll get your digital quest from your live and interactive remote host. Then you’ll take off on your own to experience a wide variety of carefully curated locations in town. You’ll walk or drive to the various checkpoints as you interpret creative tasks, accept wacky challenges, and get outside your comfort zone! ONE TICKET PER PERSON. Both family and dog friendly, the game alternates between the indoors and outdoors, with plenty of bonus challenges too! You’ll text photos and videos to your remote host, who cheers you on and assists, as you play – to document your progress. You can even interact with the locals to interpret the creative challenges.
