Movies Under the Stars: Space Jam
Grab a blanket and come enjoy a movie in a neighborhood park or playground! This summer, NYC Parks and The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment will host family-friendly movie showings across the five boroughs. Michael Jordan makes his starring film debut opposite the celluloid skills of Warner Bros.' Looney Tunes. Jordan must help the Looney Tunes win a basketball game against a group of outer-space creatures who plan, if they win, to kidnap the Looney Tunes and take them to an interplanetary theme park as the latest attraction. Numerous NBA All-Stars, including Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, Muggsey Bogues and Shawn Bradley, make appearances. Rated PG The following movie has been rated PG. Some material may not be suitable for children. The film should be investigated further by parents before they let their younger children attend. Movies begin at dusk. This event is FREE and open to the public. Glass bottles and alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited. In the event of heavy rain or extreme weather, the screening may be canceled. Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone. Learn the basic steps and embrace the joy of this iconic dance with Silvana Brizuela Weigel. Connect with partners, explore the rhythm, and have fun building your foundation. Perfect for beginners, no experience necessary! 2:30pm Flamenco basics and castanets with Flamenco Latino The Sevillanas is a 6-beat folk dance from Seville that has been flamenco-ized and Included in current flamenco repertoire of all major Flamenco dance companies. In this class we will learn the components of the First Sevillanas. We’ll learn the Basic Sevillanas step, how to cross with your partner; La Pasada, and lastly the alternating pasada. After we have learned the steps we will try to do them opposite a partner. 3:00-4:00pm Open Dance Floor with Queens live musical guest PÚYALOAHÍ, a Sunnyside-based collective dedicated to the sounds and rhythms of Colombia’s traditional cumbia music of Gaitas and Tambores.
