THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART PRESENTS Michael Caine: A Shock of Recognition
The Museum of Modern Art presents a film series, Michael Caine: A Shock of Recognition , from August 7– September 8, 2025 . In honoring Sir Michael Caine (b. 1933), MoMA celebrates one of British and American postwar cinema’s most endearing and enduring actors. Widely admired for his professionalism, relatability, and self-effacing charm, Caine has mentored many in the craft of acting, whether in his films or in his popular master classes and books. Caine got his first big break some 60 years ago as the supercilious British Army Lieutenant Gonville Bromhead in Cy Endfield’s Zulu (1964). Fame followed quickly thereafter when Caine received top billing as the cockney tomcat in Lewis Gilbert’s Alfie (1966) and as Harry Palmer, the novelist Len Deighton’s reluctant spy, in a succession of intelligent James Bond spinoffs: Sidney Furie’s The Ipcress File (1965), Guy Hamilton’s Funeral in Berlin (1966), and Ken Russell’s Billion Dollar Brain (1967). This retrospective features these and other cherished performances in films like Mike Hodges’s Get Carter (1971) and Pulp (1972), Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s Sleuth (1972), John Huston’s The Man Who Would Be King (1975), Woody Allen’s Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), Frank Oz’s Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988), Phillip Noyce’s The Quiet American (2002), and Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight (2008). Also presented are some of Caine’s more underappreciated films, including André de Toth’s Play Dirty (1969); Charles Jarrott and Anthony Page’s Male of the Species (1969), an episodic British television film also starring Sean Connery and Paul Scofield; James Clavell’s The Last Valley (1971); and Daniel Barber’s Harry Brown (2009).

Anne Frank The Exhibition
For the first time in history, Anne Frank House presents a full-scale recreation of the rooms where Anne Frank, her parents and sister, and four other Jewish inhabitants spent two years hiding to evade Nazi capture. Anne Frank The Exhibition premieres in NYC at the Center for Jewish History. This presentation provides a captivating experience for visitors as they encounter the context that shaped Anne’s life—from her early years in Frankfurt through the rise of the Nazi regime and the family’s 1934 move to Amsterdam, where Anne lived until her 1944 arrest and deportation to Westerbork, a large transit camp in the Netherlands, then to Auschwitz-Birkenau, a concentration camp and killing center in Nazi-occupied Poland, and eventually to her death at Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany when she was 15 years old. Ages 10 and older. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

Mysteries from the Deep: Exploring Underwater Archaeology
Prepare to dive into the fascinating world of underwater discovery as the Intrepid Museum premieres Mysteries from the Deep: Exploring Underwater Archaeology . Located in the Museum’s Space Shuttle Pavilion, the bilingual exhibition marks the first stop of a multi-year international tour co-produced with Flying Fish, the acclaimed exhibition firm behind the Museum’s popular Apollo: When We Went to the Moon . This exhibition reflects the Museum’s ongoing commitment to delivering stories at the intersection of history and innovation. Rooted in Intrepid ’s historic legacy as an aircraft carrier that launched warplanes in multiple conflicts, Mysteries from the Deep takes visitors beneath the surface to explore sunken aircraft, shipwrecks, submerged cities and lost landscapes. Presented in both English and Spanish, these investigations span conflicts, cultures and centuries, demonstrating how underwater archaeology connects the past to the present and informs the future. The exhibition covers more than 9,000 square feet and is on view through January 11, 2026. Entry is free with general admission. Visitors become underwater archaeologists through 15 interactive experiences as they navigate sonar mapping, pilot a remotely operated vehicle (ROV), reconstruct digital dive sites and examine real artifacts from historic shipwrecks. From ancient ruins to cutting-edge technology, the exhibition displays the tools and tenacity behind underwater exploration. Exhibition Highlights: Bilingual Presentation (English/Spanish) – All exhibition text, videos and educational materials are available in two languages to ensure broader access. Underwater Archaeology Lab – Explore the science of underwater discovery using authentic tools and experiment with sonar, ROVs and AI. Deep Dive into Intrepid ’s Story – Apply newfound insights to the Museum’s aircraft collection, including the fragments of a Corsair featured in the exhibition Final Flight: Story of a WWII Corsair , located just steps away in the Museum’s hangar deck. Submerged Histories – Examine stories of Pavlopetri, Greece, the world’s oldest known sunken city and the Clotilda in Mobile Bay, Alabama, the last known slave ship to arrive in the U.S. Tools of the Trade – See archaeologist Megan Lickliter-Mundon’s actual dive suit and discover how remote sensing technologies like LiDAR and sonar illuminate the ocean floor. The Future of Exploration – Learn how underwater archaeology intersects with climate change, innovation and global preservation efforts. More than an exhibition, Mysteries from the Deep is an invitation to explore the unknown. Perfect for history lovers, science enthusiasts and curious minds of all ages, it offers a rare opportunity to uncover the hidden past and experience the thrill of discovery.

Heroes & Villains Lower Manhattan Walking Tour
In New York, we love stories about heroic acts, courageous actions and the brave people who shaped New York. Bad actors had as much to do with shaping New York City as the acclaimed heroes – but even those heroes had skeletons in their closets. The Reynolds Pamphlet, anyone? From Jeremiah Hamilton to Hetty Green to some of the iconic filming locations where well known fictional heroes & villains (John Wick, anyone?) were brought to our screens, Liam covers it all. This tour is great for families and folks who love history as much as they love TV shows and movies.
